Coahoma County School District is currently accepting applications for the position of School Board Attorney. The successful candidate must be a member in good standing of the Mississippi Bar Association such alternatives as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Job Goal:
To provide direct, full-time professional legal counsel and representation for the Board on district matters and to other district personnel as directed by the Board.
Performance Responsibilities:
Prepares and conducts litigation on behalf of the Board.
Prepares and renders legal opinions upon request of the Booard to the superintendent, the staff, and the Board (or any member thereof).
Prepares all documents incidental to the noticing, calling, and conducting o school tax rate increase elections and school bond elections.
Prepares or reviews for the Board all invitations to bid, job specifications, and legal contracts.
Advises the Board in all matters of a legal or technical nature relating to the interpretation of statutes, charters, ordinances, contracts, etc.
Provides legal assistance in the drafting of state legislation proposed by the school district for presentation to the state legislature.
Maintains a current file of all legislation introduced in the state legislature and interprets the impact of such legislation on the interests of the school district.
Advises the Board in all staff contract negotiations.
Attends meetings of the Board as required.
Maintains files and supervises periodic revision of rules and regulations promulgated by the Board or the superintendent.
Performs such other duties, consistent with his or her professional competence, as the Board may from time to time assign.
Terms of Employment:
Twelve-month year, remuneration to be negotiated with the Board.
